On May 22 this year, Iran’s secret police did one of their countless raids in four cities in Iran. Among many others, my uncle Farhad Sedghi was imprisoned.

- They were around in about 30 different Baha’i homes in four cities. Among the arrested educators was my uncle Farhad Sedghi, who has struggled to provide education to Baha’is in the nonprofit and prohibited BIHE University, where he is professor of economics.

The regime does not permit Baha’is to educate themselves. Only because they have a different faith. Today they got their sentence: 4-5 years in prison for educating the young in Iran.

The documentary I Am explores a personal journey, “the nature of humanity” and “world’s ever-growing addiction to materialism.” The film asks two central questions: What’s Wrong With the World? and What Can We Do About it?. It is about “human connectedness, happiness, and the human spirit.” According to Wikipedia the film received a twenty minute standing ovation at its first screening.

A history in writing

My sister made it. She accomplished something I’ve thought of doing, but never dared to (being emotional isn’t always a good thing). The story of my parents life has finally been written down in this amazing book. There is no way to prevent tears from falling down when looking at the pictures and stories of their life in Iran. The strength it has required to retell the stories, listen to them and write it down is truly admirable.

I’m deeply grateful for this book. Thank you mom, dad and Mona!

Through deeds not words

Last night we were watching a show called “Swedish Heroes” – an attempt to reward six individuals heroic act towards another fellow human. Most of them who received the award had followed their instincts in rescuing a person and don’t get me wrong, that’s all great. But the whole show didn’t quite make it all the way – probably because it didn’t send out a bigger message to the viewers at home. Later that night, before going to bed I watched this video of an Indian man who’s warm and loving treatment to the poor and sick really got to me. It showed the essence of an ongoing deed throughout their life, rather than an impulse to save someone for a few seconds. This was the message I was looking for, and I am happy to share it…
